Cars in Brazil

Car manufacturing in Brazil has a strong presence shaped by decades of industrial development, large domestic demand, and deep integration with global automotive supply chains. Brazil is one of the largest vehicle manufacturing centers in the world, hosting assembly plants operated by major international automakers including Volkswagen, Fiat, General Motors, Toyota, and others. Production is concentrated in industrial regions such as São Paulo state, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul, where major assembly plants operate alongside extensive supplier networks producing engines, electronics, body components, and interiors. These clusters form one of the most developed automotive ecosystems in the Global South. Outside major manufacturing zones, the automotive sector appears through dealerships, logistics operations, engineering services, and research facilities supporting the broader industry. Participation in the sector is supported by technical education systems, industrial policy, and a large domestic workforce skilled in manufacturing and engineering. Compared with other industrial sectors in Brazil, automobile manufacturing represents one of the country’s most visible and technologically advanced industries. Continued investment in electric vehicle technology, supply chain expansion, and export markets will shape the future trajectory of Brazil’s automotive manufacturing sector.
