Car manufacturing in Bulgaria has developed as a growing segment of the country’s industrial economy, driven largely by automotive parts production and integration into European supply chains. While Bulgaria does not host large domestic vehicle brands, the country has attracted numerous international suppliers that manufacture components used by major European automakers. Industrial activity is concentrated in manufacturing regions such as Plovdiv, Sofia, and Stara Zagora, where automotive suppliers produce electronics, wiring systems, sensors, and mechanical components. These facilities operate as part of a wider European production network, exporting parts that ultimately appear in vehicles assembled across the continent. In addition to component manufacturing, Bulgaria hosts engineering, logistics, and testing operations linked to the automotive sector. Workforce participation is supported by technical universities, vocational training programs, and foreign investment in advanced manufacturing. Compared with other manufacturing sectors in Bulgaria, automotive supply production has become one of the country’s fastest-growing industrial activities. As European automakers continue expanding their supplier networks in Eastern Europe, Bulgaria’s role within the automotive ecosystem is likely to remain closely tied to component manufacturing and industrial export partnerships.
