Cycling in Burundi has developed as both a competitive and community-based sport, influenced by regional interest in East African road racing. While infrastructure remains limited compared to larger cycling nations, local races and youth programs have helped introduce the sport in urban areas such as Bujumbura. Road cycling is the most common format, supported by informal training groups and small-scale competitions. Burundi has produced riders who have competed regionally, reflecting gradual development despite financial and equipment challenges. The sport’s relatively low facility requirements make it adaptable, and continued federation support could strengthen participation and international representation over time.
