Horse racing in Ethiopia exists primarily in traditional and regional forms rather than large commercial racing circuits. Equestrian culture has historical roots in rural and pastoral communities, where horses play roles in transportation, ceremony, and sport. Organized professional horse racing infrastructure is limited, and there are few large-scale racecourses operating at an international level. Most competitive riding events are local in scale and tied to festivals or cultural gatherings. Although Ethiopia does not currently have a major presence in global horse racing, equestrian traditions remain culturally significant in certain regions.
